My Name is Ferdinand Magellan; I am Forty One Years Old. I was born in 1480, In Sabrosa, Trás-dos-Montes, Portugal to My Mother and Father. Unfortunately, Both My Parents Died When I Was Ten Years Old. I Have One Brother and One Sister. At the age of 12, I was appointed as the Queen’s Messenger in her royal court. This is When I Realized I Wanted to be an explorer. I got all the education I Need to do this from being in the Queen’s royal court. When I was 25years old, I sailed for the first time to Sea. I went to help Conquer Melaka with Francisco de Almedia. Then One of my close friends, Francisco Serrao, went on the voyage and wrote to me. In his letters he described the route and the island of Ternate. This Made Me Want to Go On a Journey of My Own. The King of Spain (King Charles I) was willing to Support My Journey, since Spain Was Looking For a Better Sea Route to Asia. In September of 1519, My Crew and I Set Sail for Southern Spain. We Had Five Ships, The Santiago, The San Antonio, The Conception, The Trinidad, and The Victoria. We went Across the Atlantic Ocean to South America. We Couldn’t Find a Route, So we sailed Further and Further South. In October of 1520, we found a strait, and named it The Strait of Magellan. It took 38days to sail through it to get to the ocean. I myself named it the Pacific Ocean. In March of 1521 we arrived in Guam (which is an island in the Pacific), and from their on went to Moluccas. This is Were I Currently Am. My Dream is to have at least one of the Ships makes it to the Spice Islands, and to return home safely to Spain.
